Hi - I have a 96' 328i that when I use the defrost, it blows hot air on the passenger side of the upper dashdefrost vents but cold air on the drivers side defrost. I am not sure if one side of the heater valve is clogged or not. I have assumed that it is blowing air hot & cold because the blower is working but one side is not getting heat.
1. Electrically disconnect the heater valve (you might need to pull the cross brace and driver's side engine air intake to get there). Then I took it for a drive, AC on, set to vents and floor, both sides at 60 deg. Result, both footwells got extremely hot air. This means the valve defaults to the open position.

Unless you have four zone climate control the rear center vents don't have heat coming through them. There's a diagram of the hvac system for bmw Various posts on various models with the same problem have shown different solutions. 1 - bad aux coolant pump. Not enough coolant getting to the heater control valve. 2 - bad heater control valve. Research here shows one inlet and two outlets. I assume one for passenger side and one for drivers side. 3 - plugged heater core. With the engine running, turn on the air conditioner system on your car. Set the temperature to MIN and the blower fan to MAX. Make sure the A/C button is pressed or is switched ON. Pull the hood release under the dashboard. Secure the hood in the up position. Ensure the hood does not fall on you while charging your BMW 5-Series with refrigerant.
AC pressure test NOT informative diagnostic in E60/E61. The troubleshooting by pressure measurement described in the following is only possible on A/C systems with uncontrolled compressors. This includes among others: E53. E46M47 up to 09/2001.

If fan speed is slow to start check the final stage unit (FSU). If AC is slow to cool but eventually does check refrigerant, compressor, receiver dryer, expansion valve and also if the AC assist fan kicks in. Also check the AC relay. In my case, the fan is strong right away, but take a few minutes to cool in the morning. Reply Quote.
2001. 525i. The AC is not blowing cool air.I have added refrigerant with stop leak, in case I had a minor leak. The two vents over the radio seem to blow a lot of air, but the left one seems to be a little cooler than the right one. Hopefully, that is systematic in identifying the issue. Any help would be appreciated.
It would just stop blowing cold after 5-10 mins of running. The blower is fine & air is moving, just not cold. If at a stop, I notice the RPM would bounce from 500/600 to 900/1000 & drop back down very 5 secs. If I turn the AC off, after it stops working, the RPM stops bouncing. While the AC is functioning & on, I have no issues.

Your problem might not have to do with the actual A/C components, but the computer that controls it. if you’re noticing that some vents have stopped blowing out air, or if your airflow and temperature fluctuates without touching any buttons, you could be dealing with a faulty climate control module.
