The first Mamma Mia! film was set on the fictional island of Kalokairi in Greece, which is a name that means ‘summer’ in Greek. And, the filming locations used for Kalokairi were mainly on the island of Skopelos, with some scenes shot in the neighbouring North Aegean island of Skiathos, too.
LOCATION. Kastani beach is located on the west side of Skopelos. It is next (only 1 km away) to the beautiful Milia Beach. Kastani beach is easily accessible by car and has comfortable parking. Furthermore, from Skopelos Town, you will need by car approximately 25 minutes to reach the beach. A lot of the film was actually filmed in Pinewood Studios in London. But there are a few more filming locations over on neighbouring island Skopelos – a mere hour away. Thankfully there are several Mamma Mia! themed boat trips available from Skiathos Town which will take you there.
